Yoga and Your Health

Yoga, Yoga, Yoga!  It seems to have taken the world hostage.  Everyone and their mother are learning yoga, taking yoga courses, or even teaching yoga.  Is this bad thing?

Oh it’s quite the opposite!  It is a very good thing, indeed!  Yoga inspires, motivates, and cleanses the soul.  If you’re new to yoga, then you will definitely want to keep reading.

This site is dedicated to everything yoga.  We’ll talk about the benefits, both mentally and physically that yoga brings; and I’ll even include special programs and websites that are 100% dedicated to yoga.

What is Yoga? Well, it’s ancient. It has been around for 5000 years or more, our ancestors even practiced yoga! If you Google it, you will find that it originates in India; the word ‘Yoga’ is from the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. It means ‘to join’, ‘to unite’ or ‘to yoke’. You might think, ‘ya but to join or unite what?’ That’s the million dollar question! Don’t worry, it’s not as elusive as you think. It is a form of spiritual and ascetic discipline; it includes controlled breathing, meditation and specific postures to enhance health and relaxation. So in effect, when you practice yoga, you are uniting your body with your mind.

So what does uniting the body and mind have to do with your health? In one word, EVERYTHING! Many practice yoga to become more aware, to attain enlightenment or a higher state of being. In our western civilization, most practice yoga to achieve a healthier lifestyle. It has been commonly accepted as an alternative form of treatment for arthritis, back pain, muscle flexibility, weight loss and circulation. It is commonly used as a form of physiotherapy too, with great results I might add!

The best part about yoga is that it enhances your mind and body so much that you start anticipating things before they happen. Many athletes practice yoga and these same athletes have little to no injuries. They are so incredibly in tune with their body that they can avoid ‘danger’ so to speak; it’s almost as it they have a 6th sense. This is something you can acquire too! And no, you don’t have to be an athlete to use yoga. If you’re a busy business professional, then you need this even more. Think about how relaxed and in control of your body and mind you’ll be; you will also develop that 6th sense, so to speak. Imagine anticipating things before they happen. It’s not a joke… think about it; yoga has survived thousands of years through our history because IT WORKS.

If you haven’t tried it, taken courses or attempted yoga yet, I strongly encourage you to. It has changed my life and so many other people’s lives for the better. Imagine all of these benefits that yoga can bring you, and the best part is you don’t need to go and buy a new home gym or join some club. In the past, to learn yoga, you had to be a member of some special club or you had to join and pay A LOT of money for some fancy membership. Now, you can do it from the comfort of your own home!

The beauty about yoga is that you can do it anywhere, and anytime you want. Just do it and you will come to need it. You will feel the need to do yoga everyday as much as you feel the need to eat. It will bring you balance, weight loss, awareness, pain alleviation, flexibility, stamina, power, self-confidence and you will most likely sleep like a baby. I haven’t slept this good in years!

If you are like me who was totally immersed in the business world for years, you don’t have much time and it is a fast paced world. I didn’t work out for years so I thought I would be in for a real challenge and I started looking into Prasara Yoga. Not only can you do it from anywhere, but it is SO EASY! Not only did I get into the best shape of my life, I have never felt this mentally balanced.
